Easy Ways to Lose Weight
If you believe everything you read in the glossy magazines, there are plenty of easy ways to lose weight with a whole range of methods from special diets to celebrity endorsed exercise programs. They are often accompanied by a book, CD or DVD, usually have a “best seller” label attached to them and give you the impression that you can lose a significant amount of weight without any real effort, willpower or desire.
Now there are many good reasons for wanting to lose weight such as greater self confidence, improvement in general health and well being but often most important of all, to look good on that special occasion. There’s no doubt that people feel better when they look good and feel great. Other benefits usually include having more energy during the day and not getting out of breath when walking or taking some form of gentle exercise.
So before you read on, remember what was said about how the subconscious mind tries to compensate for “loss” and what “going on a diet” usually implies.
However, most of these so called easy ways to lose weight involve going on a diet of some description and there are many different diets available on the market. Various fad diets that have come and gone include the Atkins diet, the low carbohydrate diet and vegetables only diet. Now diets involving eating certain berries seem to be the latest fad. Books and magazines make it sound so easy with their seven day plans and lists of what you can and cannot eat if you want to achieve your Perfect Weight.
You just need to find the diet that is right for you and you can lose those extra pounds in no time. True. But finding the time to work out a daily meal plan, shop for it and cook it is certainly not as easy as it seems. It can become a real pain. How many people do you know that are always “on a diet”? More often than not, they are on a different “diet” to the one they told you about the last time you met!
Exercise can also play an important part when trying to lose weight according to the magazines. Exercising helps to burn calories and increases your metabolic rate. True. Exercising also releases endorphins into the body that make you feel good. True. Various types of exercise are usually recommended in addition to the diet, depending upon your age and current level of fitness.
But if the only exercise you currently do is getting out of your chair to visit the fridge, a rigorous workout routine three times a week or daily five mile jog is certainly not an easy way to lose weight! And if you are thinking of increasing the amount of exercise you take, it’s always advisable to consult a doctor before embarking on any weight loss program which involves any form of strenuous exercise.
By all means set yourself a goal that you want to achieve as your Perfect Weight and a sensible timescale in which to do it. And when you discover the secrets to achieving and maintaining your Perfect Weight you will realize that there is an easy way, but it’s not what you’ve been conditioned to believe from the fad diets and exercise programs you’ve seen.
