Concerning Weight Loss Pills and Potions
It is our firm belief that weight loss should be safe, easy, permanent and relatively quick to achieve.
Of course it all depends on how much weight you want to lose and how quickly. A contributing factor is your reason and motivation for wanting to lose a certain amount of weight.
- Are you looking for a way to achieve and then maintain your Perfect Weight on a permanent basis?
- Do you need to lose a considerable amount of weight because of concerns for your health and by considerable we mean at least 60 pounds?
- Are you just seeking to shed a few pounds triggered by an upcoming special occasion such as a wedding, a holiday or special party?
It’s really not surprising that many of us turn to a quick fix diet plan to shed the excess pounds, however much weight we want to lose. Let’s be honest, sheding 10 to 20 pounds to look your best for that special occasion may seem relatively easy using a meal replacement programme or taking one of the extremely popular “fat burning” pills which help stop fat being absorbed and stored in your body when used in conjunction with a calorie controlled diet.
Having chosen your plan, you achieve your target weight, look good and feel great for the special occasion and once it’s over you go back to your old eating habits. What usually happens is that within a few months you have gained all the weight you lost while on your chosen “diet plan” and probably more. So you start again on your previous “diet plan” or maybe try a new one for the next big occasion in your life. Does this sound familiar to you? Your weight goes up, your weight goes down, your weight goes up ……
So we were concerned when we saw the front page headline in the Daily Express newspaper recently which read “Warning Over Slimming Pill”. The article relates to the highly successful anti-obesity pill called Alli which is available as an over the counter drug, without a prescription. This is a lower dose capsule of a drug called Orlistat, which was previously only available on prescription from a doctor for cases of serious obesity. It has become increasingly popular in the last year as a way of accelerating weight loss.
You can read the full article HERE and draw your own conclusions. The media love to promote the latest in weight loss programs and diet pills, but are even quicker to report the problems. The company which manufactures Alli has an informative website which does state under what conditions the product should be used. Your local pharmacist should also be able to offer advice and guidance regarding the safe use of these pills.
Think about your reasons and motivation for wanting to lose weight. If you are considering taking a weight loss drug or one of the meal replacement programs, here are some simple guidelines to ensure you protect your health:
- Determine how much weight you want to lose and how quickly and make sure that both are realistic for you – steady, sustained weight loss is far better than rapid weight loss
- It is advisable to consult your doctor before embarking on ANY weight loss program, particularly one which involves drugs, meal replacements (low calorie) or extensive additional exercise. Your doctor should be able to offer advice and check your general health
- If you chose a product such as Alli, always read the instruction leaflet which accompanies the product. Understand the possible side effects and make sure that the product does not interact with any other medication you are taking (either prescribed or over the counter)
- If you do experience any serious side effects, STOP taking the pills IMMEDIATLEY and seek medical attention from your doctor, even if you are losing weight consistently
- Only continue the program in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations – some drugs should only be taken for short periods and may cause long term problems even if you are still losing weight
- Consider what you are going to do on completion of the program if you do not want to put all the weight back
We make no excuses for recommending programs such as The Slim Girl’s Box of Secrets which is completely in line with our philosophy of safe, easy and permanent weight loss. You can check out our review of this program by clicking HERE.
But we recognise that some people will not be comfortable with the concept that you can lose weight, feel great and look stylish just by changing your relationship with food. Some people need a physical product. Just think about when you have to visit your doctor. You expect the doctor to prescribe some form of medication. Sometimes the belief in the therapeutic effect of the tablets you have been prescribed has far greater effect that the actual active ingredients.
Because we recognise that you want to make an informed choice about the best way for you to lose weight, we are going to take a closer look at some of the popular weight reduction pills and potions and report our findings in future posts.
